Structure Fire - Perdue Farms

On Monday, September 11, 2006 at 1655 hours, Station 6 & Station 2 was alerted for a Structure Fire at Perdue Farms on Zion Road. Engine 16 responded from the Shorebirds Stadium.
Upon their arrival they had visible fire and smoke coming from the sawdust storage facility. Engine 605 arrived shortly after. Several attack lines were pulled from Engine 16-1 and Engine 605. 18A then requested a 2nd alarm. Command was transferred from Engine 18A to Captain Tom Pusey (619).
Fire suppression was taken from offensive to defensive operations. 18A had Operations while Asst. Chief Records had Water Supply. Over 2000 feet of five-inch hose were laid to supply equipment from the hydrants while Tanker 608 drafted from the pond. The situation was placed under control at 2009 hours.
19 pieces of apparatus were on location with a total of 52 Fire/EMS personnel on scene.
