Parsonsburg Volunteer Fire Company
Receives $54,862.00 in Grant Funding
Parsonsburg Volunteer Fire Company is pleased to announce that we have received $54,862.00 from the Department of Homeland Security.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security today announced awards for the Fiscal Year 2006 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Round 19, awarding 317 grants to fire departments throughout the United States. Round 19 will distribute nearly $33 million.
The officers of the company will be using the money to purchase firefighters new personal protective equipment. This includes gloves, helmets, turnout pants and coats.
Deputy Chief Mark Rickards & Chief Steve White spent many hours working on the grant to meet the necessary deadlines.
“I am excited about this grant because it will help us to ensure that our members are in turnout gear that fits NFPA standards,” said Fire Chief Steve White of the Parsonsburg Volunteer Fire Company.
“Not only will we be purchasing protective equipment but also a special washer that will allow us to keep the gear clean so it will last for years to come,” said Deputy Chief Mark Rickards of Parsonsburg Volunteer Fire Company.
The AFG is a competitive program administered by the DHS Office of Grants and Training that awards one-year grants directly to fire departments nationwide in an effort to give every department the basic tools needed to respond to all hazards.
