On Thursday March 20, 2008, Station 6 was alerted for a Property Damage MVC on Old Ocean City Road between the intersections of Jones Hastings Road and Esham Road. Rescue Engine 604 arrived to find a tractor trailer off the South side of the road in the ditch. The accident had caused a rupture in the truck's saddle tank allowing approxamately 100+ gallons of diesel fuel to leak into the ditch. Command (620-Lt. J.T. Tyler) immediately requested Wicomico Emergency Management and the the Salisbury Fire Department HazMat Unit to the scene to assist. Crews dammed and diked to contain the spill and then used absorbant pads to pick up the fuel from the water.
