We are beginning to enter the winter season and drivers must prepare to drive in various types of weather related mixtures. A driver can’t expect to drive the same way during snow, ice or fog as if driving on a sunny 85 degree day. Drivers must make the necessary adjustments to safe guard themselves and others during the winter time.
Hand in hand with winter comes heavy rain, fog, ice and snow. Bad weather affects visibility and stopping distances. Drive safely.
When it first rains, this is when it is at its slickest since oil on the road rises to the surface. Also, keep in mind that during snow try traveling the main roads which get cleared first and most.
Remember the obvious -You can see snow, but you can't always see ice.
State Law: Use of headlights or fog lights is mandatory when windshield wipers are operated.
State Law: MOVE OVER when you see stopped emergency vehicles.
Let emergency responders do their job safely along the roadways. Maryland State law requires motorists to change lanes away from an emergency vehicle if approaching it from the rear. If the lane change is not possible, please reduce speed to ensure the safety of the emergency services personnel working close to traffic. Protect those who protect you….especially along slippery roadways.
