Tanker Assist Salisbury - Pointers Run

Saturday, July 7, 2018
On July 17, 2007, Wicomico Central alerted Salisbury Stations 16 & 2 and Hebron Staion 5 for a working house fire on Setters Court off of Crooked Oak Lane in the Pointers Run Subdivision. Assistant Chief 1 (J. Gladwell) arrived with a 2 1/2 story with fire through the roof and established command. Command advised responding units that they would be operating in a defensive mode and to protect the exposures. Ladder pipe operations were set up and command requested additional tankers from Salisbury Station 1, Station 12 West Side and Station 74 Delmar. Within minutes, command special called for Parsonsburg's Tanker 608 to respond. Upon 608's arrival, command requested that they set up their Fold-A-Tank and tankers would shuttle water from a nearby pond where a draft site was established by Engine 16-1 to fill the tankers. Tanker 608 remained on the scene for several hours with Engine 16 and Assistant Chief 1 while the Maryland State Fire Marshal's office investigated the cause of the fire.

During the fire, Salisbury's Lt. Lorenzo Cropper established "City Wide Command" to monitor coverage of additional calls in the city. Due to the limited staffing and apparatus left available, Station 6 Parsonsburg and Station 5 Hebron each transferred and Ambulance to Station 16 and Station 74 Delmar transferred an Ambulance to Station 2. Station 6 was later alerted to transfer and engine to Station 16. While covering the city, Ambulance B6 responded to 3 EMS calls and Rescue Engine 604 handled an auto fire and then responded non-emergency to the fire scene to assist with overhaul.

Thanks to everyone who remained in Parsonsburg to staff the other 2 engines and Ambulance.
