Late Night Structure Fire On - Old Ocean City Road

At 2342 hours, Station 6 was alerted for a chimney fire in the 31000 Block of Old Ocean City Rd. Command 6 responded with 617 (A/C Tyler) and was soon followed by Engine 605 (622-Lt. Willey) and Tanker 608. Command 6 arrived with smoke showing from a 2 story detached garage with an upstairs apartment and requested the call be upgraded to a working structure fire bring in Salisbury FD Stations 2 & 1. E605's crew was assigned investigation / fire attack and T608 was assigned water supply for the engine. The initial attack crew first made entry on Division 1 and encountered fire in the ceiling. The fire was knocked and they attempted to locate interior access to Division 2 but there was no interior stairs. The crew backed out and proceeded up the exterior stairs on Side C. Upon making entry upstairs, the bulk of the fire was found in the Side A/B room with extension to the Side A/D room and the attic. Rescue Engine 604 (616-Dep. Chief Rickards) was next to arrive and its crew was assigned to RIT & to throw ground ladders to Sides A, B, & D. Truck 2 laddered the roof on Side D and ventilated. Engine Tanker 1-1's crew reported to staging and received their initial assignment to secure the power to the structure and soon after relieved the first in attack crew. Command special requested Rescue 7 (Pittsville) for air cascade and lighting and its crew also assisted with overhaul in rotation with the other crews. EMS6 & 641 (EMS Lt. See) had accountability and Medic A6 (640-EMS Capt. Cooper) handled rehab. Sta.6 Fire Police 637 (G. Banks) & Traffic Control 7 handled shutting down Old Ocean City Rd. and detoured the traffic. The American Red Cross was called to assist the one displaced resident and SHA was requested to salt the road in front of the residence. The Fire Marshall determined the cause of the fire to be electrical. The last units cleared at 0243 Hours after remaining on scene assisting the Fire Marshall. Engine 74-1 (Dep. Chief Morris) & Tanker 74-5 from Delmar fulfilled the cover-up assignment at Sta.6.
