Mid-Day T-Bone with Rescue At - The Intersection of Mt. Hermon Road and Walston Switch Road

Saturday, July 7, 2018
Station 6 was alerted for a MVC at the intersection of Walston Switch Rd. & Mt. Hermon Rd. While enroute, Command 6 (617-A/C Tyler) was advised of a 3 car MVC with 3 patients. A next due EMS unit was requested with Sta.7 (Pittsville) being alerted. Soon after Paramedic A6 & Rescue Engine 604 (616-D/C Rickards) got on the street, Central upgraded the call to a Rescue. 640 (EMS Capt. Cooper) arrived on scene and advised of a possible trauma arrest. Command 6 arrived and determined the accident to only involve 2 vehicles with 2 patients, the next due EMS unit was cancelled. Upon 604's arrival, Command advised 616 that the patient was not in Trauma Arrest but would still be priority 1 and require extrication. 616 was assigned Rescue Operations and the Rescue Engine's crew immediately stabilized the vehicle and went to work on glass and roof removal. Rescue 16 (Salisbury FD) arrived and the crew assisted 604's crew. The crew of Engine 1 (Salisbury FD) arrived and was assigned to deploy and staff a 1 3/4" attack line. Once the roof was off the car, EMS personnel were able to package and remove the patient and load into PM-A6 for transport. PM-B6 transported 1 priority 3 from the other car. Fire Police and Utility 6 handled closing Mt Hermon Rd. until SHA arrived. Delmarva Power was also requested for damage to an electrical box.
