Decon Unit Responds To Assist Salisbury - On South Schumaker Drive

Saturday, July 7, 2018
At 2308 hours, The East Wicomico Decon Unit and the Delmar Decon unit were dispatched to assist Salisbury Fire Department on South Schumaker Drive for a HazMat incident involving a possible Methamphetamine Lab inside an apartment. The initial response for Salisbury was a medical call but upon assessing the patient and the scene, the call was upgraded to a HazMat incident. The Decon units from the Eastside and Delmar worked side by side and once decon was set up, HazMat technicians made entry into the apartment and assessed the air and materials and determined that an immediate danger did not exist. The scene was wrapped up and turned over to law enforcement for their investigation. The Eastside Decon unit is housed at Station 6. To insure a response with adequate resources and staffing, Parsonsburg established an agreement with the other 3 eastside companies for a Decon Taskforce. The Taskforce consists of a response of Brush 606 to take Special Ops 6, Rescue Engine 604 (electric supply, water supply, & air cascade); Truck 7 from Pittsville (Personnel and elevated master stream for rapid mass decon); Tanker 8 from Willards (Rural Water Supply); and Utility 11 from Powellville (Personnel and alternative vehicle to pull Special Ops 6 if necessary).
